Classes Starting @ The Green Door Studio

  • The Green Door Studio & Gallery 3010 South County Line Road Zanesville, IN, 46799 United States (map)

Greetings from The Green Door Studio & Gallery.

I’m preparing to teach three different courses this spring and summer at The Green Door Studio. The classes will run for six consecutive weeks on a night of the week that suits the most students. I can teach only five or six students per course due to limited space, so if you’re interested in one of the classes listed below, please contact me immediately so that I can reserve your spot. Each course will start in May 2024 as soon as three or more students have signed up for the class.

A brief description of each course follows. Your paid registration fee covers the cost of all class materials – no need to figure out a supply list or incur additional expenses.

THE COURSES

Introduction to Landscape Painting – a six-week course ($250)
• Learn how to make your own stretched-canvas panels (and save lots of money)
• Learn color theory & perspective to create the illusion of depth and space in a painting
• Learn the principles of composition & design that prevent some beginner mistakes
• Learn the basic techniques of landscape painting, using both acrylic and oil paints
• Course includes a bonus weekend class to makeup or catchup on classwork

Introduction to Printmaking – a six-week course ($250)
• Learn the different types of prints – relief vs. intaglio prints, monotypes, collagraphs, etc.
• Learn to design and cut a linoleum block print, then print an edition of prints
• Create a collagraph print using a variety of easily acquired textures & materials
• Learn how to ink a plate, prepare the paper and operate a large etching press
• Course includes a bonus weekend class to makeup or catchup on classwork

Introduction to Ceramics – a six-week course ($250)
• Learn how to handbuild with clay – 3 different projects, from simple to complex
• Learn the different steps from greenware, to bisque firing, to glazing and glaze firing
• Students will have opportunities to try the potter’s wheel, but this introductory class will focus on handbuilding, as students may or may not succeed on the wheel initially (I want students to have finished pieces to take home at completion of the course.)
• Course includes a bonus weekend class to makeup or catchup on classwork

Of course, you will learn so much more than what I’ve described above, but those brief descriptions will help you decide if you’re interested in a particular course. Again, space is limited, so if you’re interested, please use the “contact” feature on this website to let me know and I will send you a more complete syllabus for the course.

Standing by to answer any questions and hope to see you soon at the OPEN STUDIO NIGHT on Saturday, April 20, 5 to 8 PM. What a great opportunity to see the studio and get a glimpse of what I’ll be teaching in the courses. Don’t miss out!

Jon Detweiler
